Drill plans, sketches and editors

Approve drill plans, add map editors, publish sketches.

In Underground 3D (maps with drilling), people can plan holes and save the plans to the map, and your map's administrators can sketch interpretations. You decide what everyone else sees.

Drill plans and approvals

Anyone signed in who can open the map can save a drill plan from Underground 3D (Plan holes, then Saved plans): as a draft only they see, or Send for approval. You (the map's administrators) and the map's editors get an email. Open Approvals on the map's settings page (the Drill plans card shows how many wait), or Saved plans in Underground 3D. Each waiting plan shows its author, when it was sent, and its holes and metres. Press Approve and show or Reject, with a note to the author if you like.

  • An approved plan is shown to everyone who can open the map, read-only and labelled as a planning sketch.
  • A rejected plan goes back to its author with your note. The author is emailed each decision.
  • Plans you save yourself are shown straight away (Save to this map).
  • Take off the map (under Shown on the map on the approvals page) hides a shown plan again.

Every step is in the map's history. People who are not signed in (portal and share links, embeds) see approved plans only.

Map editors

To let someone outside your team's administrators show and approve plans (a consulting geologist, a partner), add them as an editor on the map's settings page, Drill plans card: type the email of their MinexMaps account and press Add editor (they need an account first: invite them to your team, or ask us). Editors save plans that are shown straight away and approve or reject other people's, like you. Being an editor does not give them the map: they still need it through your team or your portal. Remove takes them off again; both are kept in the map's history.

Zone sketches

In Underground 3D, your map's administrators can sketch an interpretation: name a zone, press Pick intervals, click the top and then the bottom of the interval on two or more holes (clicks snap to sample and intercept boundaries), and press Build zone. The site draws a solid between the tops and the bottoms. Edit it later (add or remove intervals) and each save is kept as a new version with who made it and when.

Sketches are private to your map's administrators until you press Publish on one: then everyone who can open the map (your team, portal and share links, embeds) sees that version, read-only, under Interpretation sketches; Unpublish takes it back, and a newer version stays private until you publish it. Every sketch is labelled as an interpretation sketch by its author (full name), not a resource model.

Plane through intercepts

Under Plane through intercepts, tick the intercepts that belong together, or choose grade x width or grade, type a threshold and press Select. Fit plane draws the best-fit plane through their middles with its strike and dip and how well it fits (for example “8 intercepts, plane 045/62 SE, RMS 12 m”), a dot where every hole crosses it labelled with that hole’s grade × width, and colour bands of grade × thickness across it (interpolated by inverse distance between the holes; a hole that crosses outside its intercepts counts as zero). Tick two intercepts on different holes and press Zone between these two for a zone sketch between them. Planes are saved, versioned, published and labelled like zone sketches.
