Your team's administrators manage the team's maps without uploading them again: how each map opens, its saved views and their links, its share links and website embeds, the AI assistant, and when it goes live. New here? Start with Team administrators: start here.
Manage maps
Manage maps in the menu lists every map your team owns, by name, with a Preview badge while it is in preview. Each row has a button per viewer (Advanced viewer, or Preview map while in preview; Basic viewer; Underground 3D on maps with drilling) and Settings. A map's page has three tabs: Settings, Views and Links and stats.
Only your team's administrators (and MinexMaps staff) see these pages. A map shown on your portal but owned by another team is not yours to manage.
Name and start-up
- Map name and Description: shown in your map list, on your portal and in the viewers.
- Basemap on at load: the background the map opens with (or as published).
- Start view: one of your saved views, or the map area as published. Visitors without a view in their link open the map there.
Press Save and update the map. The map itself updates within about a minute; the page says while your changes are being applied, or why they could not be.
Layers on at start and zoom limits
Under Layers, tick the layers that are on when the map opens. Visitors can still switch every layer on and off. Each layer can also have zoom limits (map scales, 1 : the number): a zoom-out limit of 100000 hides the layer when zoomed out further than 1:100,000, which keeps busy layers (thousands of samples, a province of claims) from slowing the map down. Heavy layers show a Suggest button with a sensible limit. Leave the boxes blank for no limit.
Saved views
A saved view is a named place on the map: an area, a zoom, a set of layers and the basemap. To make one, open the map, set it up and choose Views › Save current view (only your map's administrators see that choice). Everyone who can open the map picks views from the Views menu, and your portal lists them under the map.
On the Views tab, rename a view, give it a description and an order, make it the Default view, open it in the Advanced or Basic viewer, or Delete it (its link stops working).
Links and stats
The Links and stats tab lists each saved view with its short link (Copy), how many times it was opened (and how many of those came through the link), how many visitors, and when it was last opened. Below: how many times the map was opened on your website (each embed), and the map's visitors and opens over the last 30 days, and which portal they came through. Each saved-view link opens the map only for people who may already open it (your team, your portal or a share link). Here you see counts, never names or addresses.
Share links
The Share links card on the map's settings page makes links that open this map for people without an account: a name, an optional expiry date and the viewer it opens in. Copy a link, switch it off and on, and see its opens and the people who used it. Details in Sharing and access.
On your website
The On your website card lists the map's embeds (the map on your own website): the websites each may appear on, its viewer and how many times it was opened. Tick AI assistant for its visitors and press Save to let that website's visitors ask the map questions (it also needs everyone who opens the map ticked under the AI map assistant, and shares its daily limit). Adding an embed or changing its websites: ask us. See Your map on your own website.
The AI map assistant
Visitors can ask a map questions in plain words (Ask the map in the Basic and Advanced viewers and Underground 3D). On the map's settings page, under AI map assistant, choose:
- Who can ask it: your team's members (signed in), and/or everyone who opens the map (portal, share links, public). Neither ticked: it is off.
- Model: cheaper and faster, or more capable.
- Layers whose data it may read: unticked table layers stay private even to the assistant (it can still switch them on and off, but never reads or reports their rows).
- Ask the map may read drill intercepts: in Underground 3D, lets it see your reported intercepts (hole names and grades) to answer questions such as “which hole has the best copper intercept?”. Unticked, it still knows the hole names and can fly to them, but never sees or reports grades. Off for new maps.
The card shows this month's spend on the map against the AI credit your plan includes. Questions, answers and costs lists every question asked on the map in the last 90 days, who asked it (a signed-in name, or "visitor"), the answer, the model and the cost. If the card says the assistant is switched off by MinexMaps staff, ask us.
Preview and going live
A new map starts in preview: only your team's administrators and MinexMaps staff can open it; your portal leaves it out for everyone else, and the map shows a bar saying it is a preview, with a link back to its settings (its × closes it until you open the map again). Who can see this map, at the top of the settings page, is where it goes live:
- Go live now.
- Go live at (embargo): a date, a time and a time zone, for example the minute a news release crosses. The page counts down; Cancel the go-live time keeps it in preview.
Either way a step opens first with the map's name and who will be able to open it (your portal, its share links, your team), and you tick that it may be released: a map can hold material information, such as drill results not yet announced, and your company is responsible for its disclosure. Your confirmation is kept in the map's history. A live map can go Back to preview at any time; going live or back takes effect within about a minute.
Uploading a new version
When a new version of a live map is uploaded, the live map stays as it is. The new version waits on the map's settings page: preview it, then Make it live (with the same release step; the old version is archived) or Discard it. Only your team's administrators and MinexMaps staff can open the waiting version.
Clearing the map's cache
Map images are kept so the map opens fast, and they are redrawn whenever a new version is published. If something looks out of date (a web layer changed, or a fix was made outside MinexMaps), press Clear the map's cache. Within about a minute the next people to open the map see freshly drawn images; the first views are a little slower.
History
The bottom of the settings page lists what happened to the map and who did it: settings saved, views changed, going live and back, release confirmations, editors added and drill plans decided. Download CSV gives the whole history.
Drill plans and editors
The Drill plans card on the settings page holds the plans waiting for your approval and the map's editors: see Drill plans, sketches and editors.
